Tarec Saffiedine is the new StrikeForce Welterweight Champion
Clinch Gear athlete Tarec Saffiedine put on a masterful clinic of low kicks in the main event and title fight for what would be the final StrikeForce card ever. Coming into the fight as a 3 to 1 underdog, Saffiedine quickly established his range and was able to leverage his speed advantage over the champion Nate Marquardt. In the first round Saffiedine dropped Marquardt with a perfectly placed right hand to the chin of Marquardt as he was coming in. The second round was very close, but Saffiedine was able to establish a low kick to the left thigh of Marquardt as well as defend takedowns. In the third round it was apparent that Saffiedine had found a home for his low kicks as Marquardt’s legs began to show the effects. In the fourth round Saffiedine continued to pour on the attack with not only low kicks but some well placed punches to the face of Marquardt. As both fighters awaited the start of the 5th round, Saffiedine was fired up and looked hungry to take the belt home. By this time Marquardt’s leg was a beaten mess showing black, blue and red welts and Marquardt’s face bleeding as well. Saffiedine not only continued his low leg assault, but in the closing minute of the fight took the champion down with a double leg takedown thus cementing his unanimous decision win. Congratulations to Tarec “The Sponge” Saffiedine for the best performance of his career thus far and for bringing home the StrikeForce Welterweight Championship. We are so proud of you Tarec!
