MARCUS EDWARDS LOSES CLOSE SPLIT DECISION
This past weekend Clinch Gear athlete Marcus Edwards was one judge’s decision away from beating the highest profile fighter on his resume and potentially earning a spot in the UFC. In a fight which was extremely close, Edwards lost by split decision to former Ultimate Fighter winner Efrain Escudero after three full rounds of action. In the first round both fighters felt each other out with Edwards seeming to land more strikes and push the action while Escudero landed a takedown in the closing seconds of the round. In the second round it was evident that Edwards was the more active and accurate fighter by landing a combination finished off with a flying knee as well as a stiff left straight which momentarily stunned Escudero. In the third round, Escudero used takedowns and positioning to control Edwards. Although Edwards lost the fight, this could serve as the all important learning experience he needs to reach the next level of fighting. For Edwards, this may very well be the experience needed to spring board his career moving forward. Congratulations to Edwards for a hard fight, we expect to see him in the cage soon stronger than ever!
