Dotseth’s Blog: It’s Fight Week!
It’s fight week! Growing up, I used to love Fight Week because of all the extra coverage on ESPN and in the local paper as I counted down to Saturday night. Now getting the chance to cover MMA on a full time basis, it feels like every week is fight week.
This week it’s Strikeforce and Dan Henderson is fighting in the main event. Having watched Dan in training the last 4 weeks, I can tell you he looks awesome. I am not going to hide the fact that I am biased, but with this fight being 3 rounds instead of 5, and the fight taking place at 205 pounds instead of 185 meaning Dan doesn’t have to go through a drastic weight cut, I like his chances. With Strikeforce CEO Scott Coker saying the winner of this fight will get a shot at Light Heavyweight Champion Rafael Cavalcante in the spring, it’s a huge fight for both guys who want to show they still have something left in their storied careers.
After looking at a poll on Strikeforce’s webpage that shows 75% of people polled picked Dan in the fight, all of a sudden I fell much smarter! I’d be crazy to think “Babalu” will be an easy fight. Yes, he was KO’d by Chuck Liddell and Gegard Mousasi, but he also looked impressive in beating Robbie Lawler earlier this year.
“Babalu” told us on Clinch Gear Radio this past Saturday, he’s had a good camp, and feels great. I just think if Dan lands that right hand it will be all over. AGAIN, in my totally unbiased opinion give me Dan by TKO at 4:30 of a very entertaining first round.
We will be in St Louis on Thursday to bring you all the information leading up to the fight. Please check back to clinchgear.com for updated news and notes. We will also post photos and videos on our Facebook and Twitter pages. If you are not a fan, just search “Clinch Gear” on both sites, and follow us.
Saturday, “The Fight Professor” Stephen Quadros and I will host Clinch Gear Radio from the Scottrade Center in Downtown St Louis. Dan will be on the show, and we hope to talk to Paul Daley who is facing Scott Smith on the undercard. That Daley/Smith card should be a brawl while it lasts. Clinch Gear Radio airs every Saturday at 11am pacific on xtrasports1360.com. Thanks for stopping by and staying committed to the fight.
